Train your Dog Month
Training your dog is not only to see our four legged friends perform tricks for us, but to also enhance the quality of our relationship with them. In the month of January, Poochclub recommends that every member take a moment to train your dog a new trick. Consistency is key, but most importantly, you should have fun while doing it!
Dental Health Month
A frighteningly high % of our pets are in urgent need of dental treatment. This means that they are walking around with infection and inflammation in their mouths. Proper prophylaxis and cleaning followed by a combined preventive approach (ideally including brushing) is the best way forwards.
Spring Clean Your Pet's Month
Spring Cleaning for pet people can be as simple as freshly laundered bedding and a shampoo that you can give your pet at home. Natural products formulated to gently cleanse your pet without artificial colors or fragrances are recommended. TIP: The PH of a dog's skin is approximately 7.5 while the average PH of human skin is 5.5!
Adopt a Dog Month!
People who are looking for an animal companion can chose from the millions of pets at local shelters. However, responsible pet ownership requires more than simply agreeing to take an animal into your life; the potential adopter should be ready to make a commitment that can enhance the lives of both the human and the animal.
National Pet Month
Whether they are furry, feathered, or finned, pets have the wonderful ability to brighten almost any day. Face it - pets have their owners wrapped around their little paws. FACT: Stroking your pet or watching a tank of fish is known to lower stress levels by increasing the oxytocin in your brain. This is a scientific fact.
National Microchipping Month
We encourage people to invest in a reliable way to find their pet if lost or stolen. This quick and painless procedure places a small chip, the size of a grain of rice, underneath the skin. The owner's details are stored on the chip linking the coded information to a PetLog database that is easily scanned and retrieved.
Dog Days of Summer
The Dog Days of summer begin July 3rd just in time for Independence Day and the beginning of the summer season. If you are going to celebrate with your pet, there are national directories detailing pet friendly places. Enjoy the lazy days of summer while being aware of how many of our furry friends are frightened by fireworks.
National Service Dog Month
Dogs have been by man's side longer than any other animal on the planet, always willing to jump in to help out. In fact dogs probably have had more jobs than any other animal we have put to work to advance our evolution - from rescue missions to Guide Dogs for the Blind and Veterans of War, dogs have always been by our side.
Pet First Aid Month
You can never be too prepared for an emergency. Minutes can make a difference in emergency situations. Find out which emergency veterinary clinic is nearest to your house and keep that information easily accessible. Know how to get there before you need to drive there in a panic. Invest in a pet first aid kit complete with manual.
Meet the Breeds Month
The first step in responsible dog ownership is choosing the right breed. Everyone loves puppies, but puppies become adults and without prior thought you might have found your lovable little ball of fur is now a burly handful. Do your research and take the time to speak to breeders. This will help you match a dog to suit your lifestyle.
Pet Cancer Awareness Month
With advances in pet medicine and research, more and more animals are being treated for cancer and surviving. Early detection is one way to manage cancer. Be proactive: provide quality foods and fresh meat when possible; clean, filtered water; regular exercise; clean bedding; and regular veterinary check ups to help keep your pet healthy.
Abominable Snowman Month
Like kids, dogs love toys - all kinds of toys... Booda dog toys, dog Kong, ropes, stuffed animal toys and plain old fashioned balls. When choosing dog toys, to avoid possible injury to your pet, be sure to select toys that are sturdy and well made. Dogs are often injured by swallowing sticks, small balls, or the squeakers from plush toys.
